      Yes, that is the case – when it’s winter, and the sunlight is less intense, the trees can’t get food through photosynthesis, so they lose their leaves. This means they won’t produce oxygen – instead they use up their food stores or feed through the roots. Luckily in the tropics the sun is intense year-around, so trees produce oxygen all the time. This is one of the reasons why the rainforests are so important.
