I love to travel and have been to 26 countries in 5 continents. I would love to go to Antarctica to say that I’ve been to every continent. Because of this, I now speak Spanish, English and French. I tried Japanese for a year, but it was so hard! I really enjoy playing sports and love the gym. Before going into environmental chemistry I did a masters degree in ecology in London.

My work focuses on the interaction between spilt oil and marine sediments (like the seabed and the beach). I also look at how dispersant (a type of soap for dealing with oil spills) affects this interaction. To achieve this, I collect samples from various locations at sea and in beaches. I then mix them with seawater and oil in different ways, trying to mimic how this interaction would happen in the real environment.

Everyday is different for me. It really depends on the type of experiment I’m doing. Sometimes I spend all day in the lab. Others I’m sitting in the computer writing or analysing the results of my experiments. Occasionally I go on a ship to collect sand from the bottom of the sea. So, it’s usually quite varied.
