I’ve been quite lucky really and have never had anything too bad. Although I have had many falls and tumbles it has never resulted in a serious injury. Have been stung by wasps many times over and certain plants in the forest can cause a nasty rash too. Working with great teams, being trained, peparing well for expeditions and experience means you can reduce the chances of anyone being hurt.
Thankfully not, apart from the minor bumps and bruises from tripping over wire fences, bumping into trees and carrying heavy equipment. I’m very pleased that I have never been bitten by an animal I worked with… Wait, I take it back. I have once done research in Texas, and I ended up with my feet bitten by fire ants – and they’re nasty little things! I’ve not been bitten by a bigger animal though, which is good, because bites that cause open wounds can be very difficult to deal with.
I don’t know if it counts as hurt, but I went on a ship to collect samples from the bottom of the ocean and got really seasick. It took me about a week to get used to the rocking of the boat. I didn’t eat much other that a few crackers for a few days. Eventually I got used to it and I could eat normally but that first week was really rough.
Occasionally! I have been bitten by lots of things…the most painful was a blue tit. They are small but have a lot of confidence :-).
I once was trying to climb from a boat on to some rocks and fell in…that was very very cold and quite unpleasant!
