I think I would name it after my mum so the latin species would be something like josefanii. You generally don’t get to choose the first bit of the latin name of a species. The common name would be the Josefa flower. I need to check that not been taken already!

It would depend on the type of plant it belonged to, but I would try to shoehorn in a name of a magical plant from Harry Potter, like Mimbulus mimbletonia or venomous tentacula. I’d try to go for something funny, very much like a friend of mine who called a new species of crab “The Hoff crab” after David Hasselhoff (the crab was quite hairy!).

I think I would name it after a small town in Spain that I really like (Conil). A friend of mine recently discovered and named a beetle in Indonesia!

I’d like to give it a silly name, because I’d like people in the future to find it and it make them smile. I’m a big fan of Super Mario, so maybe I’d call it the Power-up Flower!
